Tolerance vs Love

Tolerance is not love. Tolerance is a counterfeit. It has the appearance of love, but is actually the opposite. Tolerance tolerates sin. It so badly wants to be liked, it turns a blind eye to the truth and the sin others are caught in. It doesn’t want to offend anyone, cause any ruffles or lose any friends. It will ashore others: “You are fine.” ” You need to follow your heart.” “You need to do whatever it takes for you to be happy.” The grave reality is people are living day in and day out in painful bondages. Some have even lost the Way completely. Though they don’t understand what’s going on, their spirits are withering and crying out to be restored back to the Truth. What they need is a good cleansing dose of humility and repentance before the cross.
However, love cares. Love cares more about the state of their friend’s soul then the state of their friendship. It does not hold back the Truth, because it may ruin the friendship.  It says “I love you so much that I am going to step on your toes to tell you the Truth, that you may know the freedom that comes with it.” Love steps outside its comfort zone and risks all to restore the heart of another. The only part that really matters. The one thing we take with us to heaven. Love knows the pain of being unliked, unpopular and rejected. Love will take the heat, the blame and the black eye, if that’s what is required to restore another.
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
“Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:1-2
“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.” Matt. 18:15
“They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. Peace, peace, they say, when there is no peace.” Jeremiah 8:11
